The Flames placed their former assistant captain on unconditional waivers today.  The Flames intend to buy out the remaining two years of his contract. The move will save the Flames $3 million in cap salary space in each of the two years remaining on his contract. Brouwer is two years into an $18 million four year contract with the Flames.
