In this final edition of the first year we've covered the world of pro wrestling/sports entertainment we again look back at the week that was in both TNA and WWE. TNA showed more of the recent tapings from New York City with the Hardy Boyz reuniting. WWE moved on post 'BattleGround' and set-up a massive main event for 'SummerSlam' involving "option C."
TNA wrestling has been a bit more interesting of late with there own more original "option C" as the X-Division Champion Austin Aries will cash in the title to take on the TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley on next week's 'Destination X' Impact special. Obviously that mean there will be a 'Destination X' match next week as well to determine a new X-Division Champion. Also there will be a TNA World Tag-Team Championship match as the reunited Matt and Jeff Hardy will square off against The Wolves (Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards.) This week the TNA Women's Knockout Championship was on the line in the third match between champion Gail Kim and challenger Taryn Terrell. Unfortunately it ended with a visit by the "Beautiful People" and a future re-match between these two excellent competitors is sure to come. TNA also announced that they will return to the Manhattan Center in New York City on August 5th through the 7th for more tapings that will include a former ECW/WWE superstar. Tajiri will make his first appearance in several years, possibly to be involved in the angle between the Great Muta and James Storm.
WWE made the huge announcement at the conclusion of Monday Night Raw that Paul Heyman's client Brock Lesnar will battle John Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the main event of 'SummerSlam' on August 17th. Originally Triple H wanted it to be Randy Orton to face Cena but Roman Reigns interjected and it seems certain a match between those two superstars will also be on the card for the biggest event of the summer. Also, Paige made her heel turn after a tag match with AJ Lee versus Natalya and Emma. The "anti-diva" has returned and that should ratchet up the heat and quality of matches between herself and AJ over the Divas Championship. We also saw the formation of a new stable in WWE as Xavier Woods came down in a white suit after a tag match that involved Kofi Kingston and Big E. We are intrigued to see where this trio, that could grow, could go in future weeks and months. Lastly, WWE made some more headlines while showcasing WWE2K15 at Comic-Con. Finally Sting made a public appearance for the company, dressed in the long black robe, bat in hand and face painted white with black markings. As yet we don't know when Sting will make any appearances in the ring, but it seems certain it will happen sometime in the next six to seven months to set-up something prior to 'WrestleMania' 31.
Well that sums up the week that was in pro wrestling. Next week this review morphs into it's second edition but we will continue to highlight the comings and goings of the week that was in sports entertainment.
