We have not come to our 50th edition of our weekly review of all things going on in the big two promotions here in the United States, WWE and TNA. TNA has started to ease into the road to 'Bound for Glory' in October, while WWE rolls on normally with 'BattleGround' getting ever closer in there forward view.
TNA wrestling had it's final airing of prior tapings before being in New York City recently on Thursday night. As shown in the video they crowned a new X-Division Champion as Austin Aries captured that title on a fifth occasion. Now if he can hold onto it until just prior to 'Bound for Glory' he can use "option C" and cash it in towards a World Heavyweight title opportunity. Speaking of that championship a battle royal was held to determine a new number one contender that saw the return of Jeff Hardy (not being under the mask of "Willow") as he eliminated Eric Young to get a chance at the TNA World Champion Lashley. Next week fans will be treated to two former ECW stalwarts going at it, as Bully Ray and Rhino will finally face-off, plus the TNA World Tag-Team titles will be on the line. The Championship team of The Wolves (Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards) will defend the belts against the team of Magnus and Bram.
While WWE continued to move towards finalizing the card for 'BattleGround' on Sunday July 20th, they set things up to further the budding feud between the recently returned again Chris Jericho versus Bray Wyatt. The war of words between these two should wind up being more epic than it has been already because we can see matches between these two going into 'SummerSlam' as well next month. Roman Reigns said some things on Monday Night Raw that were not really "PG" but helped spark a battle between himself and Kane as both head into the fatal four way championship match at 'BattleGround.' The Usos lost another non-title match to the Wyatt Family members Harper and Rowan that has lead to a two-out-of-three-falls WWE Tag-Team title match at that same special event next week. Probably the best news for fans of Divas action was that WWE has made it official Paige will challenge AJ Lee for the Divas Championship next Sunday as well.
One last bit of news out of WWE was the signing of Japanese superstar Kenta to a developmental contract to start in NXT soon. This is another solid addition to the future of WWE as ROH's Kevin Steen appears headed to NXT as well after he fulfills his final dates with Ring of Honor in the next week or so. NXT has become quite a breading ground for future WWE superstars and divas, with the likes of Sami Zayn, Adrian Neville, Charlotte and more already being seen weekly on the WWE Network.
