On this all hallow's eve 2013 we take a special look back at the one pay-per-view named after this holiday, WCW's 'Halloween Havoc.' Between 1989 when it debuted and the last event in 2000 it was the next biggest WCW pay-per-view to Starrcade in the second half of any year.
There were certainly many great matches during the years of this pay-per-view event for World Championship Wrestling (WCW). During the 1995 'Halloween Havoc' there was Sumo Monster Truck match featuring Hulk Hogan versus The Giant (Big Show) in which the winner had to push the other truck outside of the circle with both axles of the truck going complete outside. Hogan was victorious there, but not later in the actual wrestling main event. The Giant would defeat Hogan via disqualification and capture the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. But post-match the wrestling fans would be treated to one of the many absurd aspect's of WCW as The Yeti debuted as part of the Dungeon of Doom and both he and The Giant were "hugging" Hogan after the match. Really it was meant to look like there were squeezing the life out of Hogan and "Hulkamania."
In later years when the nWo storyline was in full effect in WCW and Hogan had become "Hollywood" Hogan, WCW President Eric Bischoff had tried to right a wrong that would help massage the ego of Hogan. In 1990 at 'WrestleMania VI' in the first ever WWF title-for-title match the Ultimate Warrior defeated Hulk Hogan to become the WWF Champion, while retaining his Intercontinental Championship. Eight years later, in 1998, The Warrior was brought in to WCW to square off once again with Hogan. At 'Halloween Havoc' the two faced-off in what very many fans and WCW executives viewed as one of the worst matches ever. Hogan pinned The Warrior to retain the WCW World Heavyweight Championship after interference from his nephew Horace Hogan, but The Warrior was so rusty in the ring that almost anything could have been used as a finish for the contest.
We could go on and on with more match highlights for WCW's 'Halloween Havoc' but we will leave it up to you fans to pull out your VCR tapes to re-watch them, or hit up YouTube to see what many wrestling fans have posted there when you search for 'Halloween Havoc.' We here at WorldWrestling101 wish everyone a happy and safe Halloween tonight.
