On Friday we previewed the under card matches for WWE's 'BattleGround' pay-per-view here. Now we take a longer look at the top three matches on the card, there possible outcomes and how it could affect things going into the next WWE event 'Hell in a Cell."
The top three matches on the card:
This feud is in real danger of losing steam. How many times can they bait and switch Bryan winning the title without Bryan getting mad? If he doesn't care then why should we? As desperately as fans have wanted Bryan to have the championship I just don't think he gets the win here. He has had two main event pay-per=view wins in a row for the title but the hat trick just doesn't seem likely. My random guess is that Show costs Bryan the title and we move to that feud while Orton settles into his role as the new regime's champion now that he has found his sadistic side again. Randy Orton wins the match and becomes the new WWE champion.
It would be very fitting is Bryan won the title now for a third straight pay-per-view and may be kept the title for more than about a day, but this match is set -up as a means to bring back the Apex Predator/Viper version of Orton as he decimates Bryan to be the "face of WWE" yet again. Expect that they go at it once more later in the month inside the cell for the WWE Championship.
World Heavyweight Championship: (Hardcore Rules Match) Alberto Del Rio (C) versus Rob Van Dam w/ Ricardo
Another month of this feud? I am going to stick with my pick from last month and say that RVD wins the match and the World Heavyweight Championship ESPECIALLY now that it has been made a Hardcore Rules Match which definitely favors Mr. Monday Night. After the match Ricardo ends a very pointless partnership with RVD and turns on him to help Damien Sandow cash in his Money in the Bank contract and become the second new World Heavyweight Champion of the night.
This certainly seems like the time for RVD to win the World title since is becoming a Hardcore Rules match is right in his sweet spot, but does WWE want him as World Heavyweight Champion when they are not sure if he is coming back on another short term contract? It would seem like the perfect opportunity for RVD to win, but be weakened by Del Rio then Sandow cashes in.
Again this match has been the most compelling story going into the pay-per-view. Punk and Heyman continue to shine in their roles and Ryback has been a riot in his man love segments with Heyman. One depressing thing is that the Intercontinental Champion, Curtis Axel, already feels like an afterthought now that Heyman has brought Ryback on as an official Paul Heyman guy. Punk has suffered several defeats in this feud and it may finally be time for him to turn the corner and start closing in on the revenge he seeks against his former mentor. Punk and Ryback should have a surprisingly good match and Punk gets the win before going after Heyman.
This match should certainly give Punk an outlet for his rage against Heyman even though Ryback is a very physical opponent. This feud seems slated to end either at 'Hell in a Cell' or most certainly at 'Survivor Series.' I could certainly see a win by Ryback with Heyman screwing Punk as a means to help things continue along just a little longer.
Well that wraps up things for 'BattleGround' Sunday night on pay-per-view. Let us know your thought on how you feel things may play out for the outcomes of any or all of the matches.
