As we take a look back at the week that was in the world of professional wrestling/sports entertainment we must say it was quite a week. The biggest news of the week was the revelation by WWE Superstar Darren Young coming out as gay. Tonight is 'SummerSlam' so by this time next week we may have title changes to report as well.
For more of the news relating to Darren Young you may read our article here. In other WWE news The Big Show made his return to the ring on Monday Night Raw helping Rob Van Dam and Mark Henry fend off an attack from The Shield, then teamed up with the same men to defeat The Shield in a six man tag match on Smackdown.
In TNA they crowned a New World Heavyweight Champion when Bully Ray regained the title in a steel cage match at 'Hardcore Justice' versus Chris Sabin. Otherwise if Bully Ray had lost he would never again been able to compete for the TNA Championship. Kurt Angle checked into rehab for yet another DUI and will not be available for the five-on-five match as the Main Event Mafia battles Aces and Eights with the loser of the fall leaving TNA forever. Also, the "President of the Knockouts" Brooke Hogan was released from TNA.
The NWA crowned a New World Junior Heavyweight Champion in Jason Kincaid as he defeated Chase Owen on Saturday, August 10th in Kingsport, TN in the NWA's Smoky Mountain territory. Last night at "Manhattan Mayhem V' in ROH the final four participants were set in the ROH World Championship tournament as Adam Cole, who had already advanced, will face Tommaso Ciampa. In the other match-up it will be Michael Elgin versus Kevin Steen as one of these four men will be the new ROH champion. Also, the ROH World Tag-Team Champions changed hands yet again, this time two weeks after the last title change, as Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish (reDRagon) regained there titles.
We strive to give you a snapshot of each week that passes by in the world of sports entertainment/pro wrestling and there was a lot that had gone this past week. Hopefully this catches all of our readers up to speed and ready for the week ahead. Post 'SummerSlam' things should certainly be different in WWE.
