The Washington Redskins and general manager Bruce Allen won't waste time looking for a replacement for Mike Shanahan, who was released yesterday.

Team sources have reported that the Redskins' have asked for permission to interview for current Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell to become the team's next coach.

Bevell, 43, began his coaching career as an offensive assistant with the Green Bay Packers in 2000, and was later promoted to quarterback's coach in '03 to work with Brett Favre.  Brad Childress, Bevell's boss in Green Bay, was named head coach of the Minnesota Vikings in 2006, and brought Bevell with him to run the offense.  Bevell was reunited with Brett Favre for a season, helping the legendary quarterback to throw for 4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns and a 107.2 quarterback rating.

After being let go by the Vikings, the Seattle Seahawks hired Bevell to serve under head coach Pete Carroll.  Bevell's attack in Seattle has been centered around the running game, with Marshawn Lynch and Russell Wilson leading the pack, the Seahawks have finished in the top four in rushing hards in each of the last two seasons.

This isn't the first time Bevell's name has come up as a potential head coach. He interviewed with the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Arizona Cardinals last season but was ultimately passed over.  It's rumored the Minnesota Vikings have also sought permission to interview him for their head coaching vacancy.
