I knew all it would take was for Robert Griffin III to have a less then stellar outing against a team's number one defense and for Kirk Cousins to have a multiple touchdown performance against that same team's practice squad guys for someone in Bristol Connecticut to start the whole RG3 vs Cousins quarterback controversy.

I wasn't quite sure who would start it (even money was on Keyshawn Johnson because he's a moron) but I didn't think when it started it would become a race thing. That's exactly what happened because the four letter network only employees Skip Bayless to piss me off.

In case you missed it, this is what Bayless said.

"I'm going to throw it out there. You also have the black-white dynamic and the majority of Redskins fans are white. And it’s just human nature, if you’re white to root for the white guy. It just happens in sports. Just like the black community will root for the black quarterback. I'm for the black guy. I'm just saying, I don't like the dynamic for RG3. It could stunt his growth in the NFL."

This isn't the George Preston Marshall era of the Redskins where he refused to allow a black man to play for the Redskins. Yes we were the last team to integrate but that was decades ago and a different owner. It's 2012 the NFL is made up of mostly black athletes, I'm pretty sure Redskin fans care less about the color of their quarterback, they just want him to win.

When I first heard that Bayless was saying there was a QB controversy in DC I thought, yeah that makes sense, Skip is an idiot and like a middle child just does or says anything for attention.  Then he brought race into and my head exploded from the sheer stupidity of what he said. However, my favorite part was when he said "I'm for the black guy." It's like he's saying it's natural for us white folk to be predisposed to rooting for other white folk but he is so evolved he can look past color and root for the "black guy".  By the way Skip, his name is Robert, not "the black guy".

Granted there are probably some ignorant fans out there who would prefer Cousins over RG3 because of color (I doubt anyone is racist enough to want to see Rex over RG3 though), but those people are few and far between and probably aren't really fans. Real Redskins fans want the best of the two starting (RG3) and are probably hoping that it is RG3 since the Redskins paid such a high price for him.

I know in the end Bayless is just saying all this nonsense to get people to talk about him and yes I have fallen into his trap (technically) but I believe ESPN fired Rush Limbaugh for saying pretty much the same thing. Rush said the media put Donovan McNabb on a pedestaled because he was a black quarterback and desperately wanted him to succeed. However, Skip is somehow Teflon and this won't stick to him and he'll get off scot free.

In the end though I'd like to remind Skip that the Skins for all their faults are still the only NFL team to win a Super Bowl with a black quarterback, and when you talk to most fans and ask them their favorite quarterback for the burgundy and gold the majority (white or black) will say "Doug Williams".

Wow! Race aside, I can’t believe Cousins is getting any kind of media attention under any circumstances, especially based on one generally meaningless pre-season game. You can count me as one of those loyal, life-long Skins fans (and a white female) whose favorite Skins QB is Doug Williams. I don’t know one fan who preferred Jay Schroeder in that magical year or who believed he would have been able to put up the kind of performance Williams did on the biggest stage in sports. I still remember the groans from fans when Williams twisted his knee and was briefly replaced by Schroeder in SB XXII. I can’t stand ignorance.
