Because they're so many players being evaluated tonight and throughout the preseason, I won't go into any extensive detain here–just who to watch.
First Team
Robert Griffin III – Of course. He is the topic of discussion in D.C. and will continue to be. How does he handle the nerves and what does he do when the pocket breaks down?
Evan Royster – The coaches choose him to start and after watching his tape from last year, that's fine by me. Watch how he sets up defenders for the cut-back.
DeAngelo Hall – We know what Hall can do. We all know what he can't do. But tonight I want to see how the Redskins plan to use him in Raheem Morris's new system (slot, blitzing, mid-field zones).
Offensive Line – Don't worry about watching the individuals. Tape will reveal what they did. Enjoy the game and watch the stars. Try to judge the line in terms of good, okay, bad, or horrible. Remember, the Skins could be down three starters. *Update: they are down three–Maurice Hurt (LG), Adam Gettis (RG) and Tyler Polumbus (RT) are starting tonight.
Both Safeties – How well do Madieu Williams and Brandon Meriweather play off each other?
Second Team
Niles Paul – Chris Cooley is set to play full-back with Young down. Paul will get to see the field with Fred Davis and that's what we all want to see. How well does he block? How well does he run?
Roy Helu Jr. - The most athletic back on the team who has game breaker potential. I want to see Helu Jr. get through the hole quickly and make the first guy miss or shake him off.
Kevin Barnes and Cedric Griffin – They're both fighting to be the third corner on the field. Who comes out first? Who plays the smartest?
Jarvis Jenkins – Will we see the monster from last year? If so, you wont have to look for him very hard.
Josh Morgan – He's a really good receiver, but that's if he's healthy. I want to see where he lines up and how he blocks tonight.
Third Team
Alfred Morris – Notice a trend? Every back is worth watching in Mike Shanahan's system. He's had some rave reviews recently as well.
Richard Crawford – Heard some good and bad in camp, but he's a play-maker. Which Crawford shows up?
Tom Compton - A sleeper tackle. He'll be playing against third stringers as well, but if he keeps his feet under him, he's got a shot at making the team.
