REDSKINS 101

We finally got a chance to see Robert Griffin III, live and throwing. After a short glimpse of heaven, we started to feel the other side of that coin; 100-plus degree temperatures. It was a packed first day. Everyone was excited to see the new stars, but several vets were showered with love too.

Now, getting into the notes:

Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan are going to be the two starting, outside receivers. Both made some great, tough catches, but it was Garcon who really stood out. If I had to pick someone to be RGIII's "early favorite," it would be Pierre. RGIII's first completion was to former Indianapolis receiver, down the sideline, over the shoulder–beautiful throw and catch.

Robert Griffin III had some accuracy issues throughout the day. For what reasons, I couldn't tell you. He did, however, hit many of his timing throws from under center and showed great body posture throughout the practice. I'm a little afraid that fans will want perfection out of RGIII early in the season, without ever giving him time to be a rookie. Let's all remember that he is.

One player who didn't show great body posture: Josh Morgan. This could have been heat related. It could have been laziness. I haven't heard anything about his work ethic before, but it is something I'll look for as camp continues.

Brandon Banks looks to be the day one favorite for the sixth wide receiver competition (if that means anything). Right now the order goes; Garcon, Morgan, Moss, Hankerson, Armstrong, Banks. Aldrick Robinson is the guy on the outside, looking in. And he might not be "looking" for long.

If you were wondering about the other RGIII (Rex Grossman III), he did about what you would expect; a fumbled snap, a poor throw here and there. And of course, the fans let him know about it.

On the opposite spectrum, fans were excited to see Chris Cooley running around, yelling "Cooooley" whenever he made a play.

Roy Helu Jr. was the best back on the field. He showed the elusiveness we all saw last year, before his injury. The Redskins will have to limit his carries this year, many believe, but that won't stop the kid from making plays. He only needs to touch the ball a few times in any given game.
