Washington Redskins Vs San Francisco 49ers: Preview

The Washington Redskins have their hands full today with the San Francisco 49ers. Fortunately the Redskins are at home, where their 2-1. The two teams are very similar in their build, but the difference lays in the offensive talent/identity. Alex Smith hasn't had a "breakthrough" according to many. Coach Jim Harbaugh hasn't asked him to throw at all. And we wouldn't as Beck to throw 30+ times if we had a healthy running game like the Niners do with Frank Gore.

Frank Gore has rushed for at least 125 yards the last four games and in two of them he had just 15 carries. Clearly there offensive line is doing a heck of a job, but the Redskins have only allowed that many yards on the ground to a single rusher once this season (Eagle's McCoy). Still, most will agree that stopping the run is an issue for this team. An issue not shared with 49ers.

San Francisco has only allowed 73.4 yards per game; good enough to take first in the league. An NFL scout said that it wouldn't be smart to run left against the Niners and I concur, especially considering the recent O-line shuffles on that side for us.

As far a the passing game… I'm not sure that ANY team can beat the 49ers without a significant contribution from their quarterback. So far Tony Romo's "heroics" (I can't believe I said that) are the only reason that San Fran has a L at all. I'm afraid John Beck isn't Tony Romo but depending on defensive production he might not need to be.

Yes, I mean turnovers. The Redskins are going to need to force a few and take advantage, even possibly score. If the Redskins are going to win today, they need to play their best game of the season in what I called their first must win of the season… are they ready?

X-Factor: Roy Helu is getting the start at RB today. He's quick, shifty, and hungry!

Bold Prediction: John Beck connects his first deep ball this week; 40+.

Game Prediction: Both teams have the same make-up and anything is possible. That said I am already making an excuse for how the Redskins CAN win. Let's face it, this isn't their best match-up.
