The University of Central Florida women's soccer team may have suffered a slight setback after losing its lone exhibition game of the season against No. 21 Florida this past Saturday, but good spirits abounded once more Monday as the program learned senior All-American forward Tishia Jewell had been named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List.
The highest individual award given annually in the sport, the Hermann Trophy was first introduced in women's soccer in 1988, with UCF's own Michelle Akers named its inaugural winner in her final season with the Knights.
Jewell enters her final year playing for UCF having finished last season with NSCAA All-American honors and having being named to All-Central Region and All-Conference-USA first teams.
As a junior in 2011, Jewell ranked in the top-25 in the nation for assists and led the Knights with 24 points (seven goals, 10 assists).
The senior joins Aline Reis, former UCF alumna and All-American goalkeeper, as the only other UCF women's soccer player to be named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List.
The NSCAA will narrow a list of 38 watch list candidates to 15 semifinalists by Nov. 25. Member coaches and fans will then choose three finalists (named Dec. 6), with a winner announced on Jan. 11, 2013.
