The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday afternoon that they have traded forward Austin Daye to the San Antonio Spurs for Nando De Colo. The news of this trade was first reported by Yahoo Sports. The Raptors weren't expected to be big buyers at the trade deadline and would only make a small move that could benefit the team. This trade is exactly what that is. It isn't a franchise-changing deal by any means, but it makes the Raptors a bit better than they were.
Daye, 25, is a 6'11 forward who has never lived up to his potential. He played in a total of eight games for the Raptors where he averaged 1.0 points per game, 0.9 rebounds per game, and 0.3 assists per game. He saw just over 32 minutes of total playing time and did not play well when he was on the court. Daye has one year left on his contract after this season, worth approximately $1 million.
De Colo, 26, is a 6'5 guard that has played the last two seasons with the Spurs after playing in France. In 26 games this season, De Colo has averaged just over 11 minutes per game. He is averaging 4.3 points per game, 1.7 rebounds per game, and 1.2 assists per game.
De Colo has ball handling ability and can shoot the ball fairly well. He isn't expected to make a big impact on the Raptors this season, but he gives them another ball handler should they need one. He has a qualifying offer of $1.8 million for next season.
