The NBA announced its participants for the 2014 Rising Stars Challenge that will be played during All-Star weekend and among those named to the game is Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas. The Rising Stars Challenge is a matchup featuring the best rookies and sophomores throughout the NBA. There were a total of 18 players selected to participate in the game.
Here is a list of the players that were selected:
Steven Adams, Pero Antic, Giannis Antentokounmpo, Trey Burke, Michael Carter-Williams, Tim Hardaway Jr, Victor Oladipo, Kelly Olynyk, Mason Plumlee,
Harrison Barnes, Bradley Beal, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond, Terrence Jones, Damian Lillard, Jared Sullinger, Jonas Valanciunas, Dion Waiters
Valanciunas is averaging 10.4 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game and 0.9 blocks per game this season. He leads the Raptors with 16 double-doubles and is starting to develop into one of the better centers in the league.
Raptors guard Terrence Ross was not selected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge, but he is expected to defend his crown in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. Ross is averaging 10.3 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game this season. He has developed into one of the Raptors' best defenders and he is making an average of 1.9 three pointers per game. Ross is one of three NBA players to score 50 or more points this season. He scored 51 on January 25 against the Los Angeles Clippers, tying a franchise-record.
The Rising Stars Challenge will take place on Friday, Feburary 14 in New Orleans during All-Star weekend.
