The Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks were set to end their preseason tonight, but it came earlier than expected. The two teams only got through half of the first quarter before the game was cancelled due to unsafe playing conditions. The floor was slippery and players were constantly falling. They found that it was in the best interest of everyone involved to cancel the game. The Bucks were leading 14-9 at the time of the stoppage.
Both teams were already shorthanded as some players were given rest, while others were recovering from injuries. The last thing either team needed was for another player to go down unexpectedly and injure themselves.
It wasn't the grip, it was just giving way when you try to cut. Amir Johnson and I fell on one play, and I tried to get up and I fell again.
Head Coach Dwane Casey also spoke regarding the court and its conditions:
There were concerns earlier and the court crew did an excellent job mopping it. It felt like it was okay, then I don't know what happened but it was too dangerous. We had guys slipping and falling. The last thing we need is to have a guy injured slipping on the floor in a preseason game.
With this game being cancelled, the Raptors finish the preseason with a 6-1 record. The team has showed good promise heading into a new regular season and are hoping to get off to a fast start.
