The Toronto Raptors manhandled the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday night on their way to a 108-72 victory, but it came at a cost. The Raptors announced today that point guard Kyle Lowry suffered an injury to his left ring finger tendon. Lowry will still be able to practice and play, but will be protected with a splint for approximately six weeks. He will not travel with the team to Milwaukee for their final preseason game. Lowry is a key piece to the Raptors this season and the team can't afford for him to lose any time.
Lowry wasn't the only player to walk out of the game with an injury. Centre Jonas Valanciunas, forward Tyler Hansbrough, and guard Julyan Stone also suffered injuries Wednesday night. Valanciunas took an elbow from Grizzlies forward Zach Randoph in the chin. He suffered a chin laceration and received stitches. He is believed to be fine and is only listed as day-to-day as he participated in non-contract drills today.. Hansbrough injured his right thumb, but it doesn't seem to be serious as he was at practice today. Stone re-injured his hip, which doesn't fair well for him since he's battling for a roster spot. He is listed as day-to-day.
The team has had its share of injuries early as forward Steve Novak has also been out of the lineup with a hand injury. Novak is expected back for the season opener next Wednesday against the Boston Celtics.
For a team that plays in a competitive Atlantic Division, things will need to fall in the Raptors favour this upcoming season. They can't afford to suffer any key injuries to their players.
