The Toronto Raptors open up their preseason tonight in Boston against the Celtics. The Atlantic Division rivals will meet each other a total of three times in October – twice in the preseason and in the regular season opener on October 30. Both teams come into the preseason looking to finalize their roster. They will also look to find a solid rotation of players that can compete on any given night. Tonight will give fans a glimpse of how much time players have put in during the offseason.
The Toronto Raptors will be led by the duo of Rudy Gay and Demar Derozan. Both players will play a huge role for the team this upcoming season and will look to get off to a good start tonight. Big man Jonas Valancuinas is looking to take the next step after a good rookie season. He was named the 2013 Las Vegas Summer League MVP and has shown improvement in his strength and post play throughout the summer. Besides the big names, be sure to keep an eye on forward Chris Wright who has put forth a strong preseason so far and guard Carlos Morais, who is trying to become the first Angolan to play in the NBA. Both players are fighting for a final roster spot and will do everything they can to impress the team over the next couple of weeks.
Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Doc Rivers – those are just some of the names you won't see with the Boston Celtics. Over the offseason, the Celtics completely revamped their roster and coaching staff in order to build for the future, while still putting a competitive team on the court. Get used to seeing guys like Jeff Green, Jared Sullinger and Avery Bradley. With Rajon Rondo still out with an ACL injury, they will be called upon to carry the load for the Celtics.
The game will begin at 7:30 pm. ET tonight.
