They have dealt with big injuries early on that have significantly affected their ability to win games, with Jake Locker still unlikely to play this week against the Bills, and with receiver Kenny Britt only seeing amount of serious playing time in two of the teams first six games. Linebacker Colin McCarthy has also been plagued with an ankle injury which seems to be subsiding.
With the injuries seemingly getting better as the players return to the field, the final second victory over the Steelers could help ignite the fire the Titans need to rally before entering their bye week.
The four games they have lost weren't even close, but it appears the defense has been able to pinpoint certain areas of weakness as they were able to stop an efficient Steelers offense. The 26-23 win was also the first game of the season in which they held their opponent under 30 points, a large step in the right direction.
The defense has started to turn around their poor play, which has been aided by the offenses ability to hold on to the ball longer, allowing the defense time to rest on the sidelines. The first five weeks, the Titans defense looked drained and beaten by the end of games, a key factor that allowed teams to run up the score later in games.
Against the Steelers though, the Titans had the edge for time of possession for the first time all season, although it was only a six second difference. Point is, they are getting on track, and doing crucial things they need in order to give themselves a shot at winning.
Lets not forget about kicker Rob Bironas though, who made all four field goals he attempted against the Steelers, including the 40-yard game winner with just seconds left on the clock. Bironas has 42 of the Titans 114 points this season and is second all time in the franchise for scoring behind kicker Al Del Greco.
There are four more games before they head into their bye week, with games against the Bills, Colts, Bears, and Dolphins. If the Titans can stay healthy and continue their strong play coming out of the Steelers game, then they should at least be able to take two of the four games, or even put themselves right at an even record of 5-5 before their week off.Tags: Football, Jake Locker, Kenny Britt, NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers, Rob Bironas, Tennessee, Tennessee Titans
