The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released running back Jeff Demps and quarterback Mike Kafka. Both players are eligible to be signed to the practice squad.

Demps, a former Florida Gator and Olympic silver medalist in the 4-by-100 relay, impressed in training camp with his world-class speed but was unable to transfer the performances to game situations. In Thursday’s loss to the Washington Redskins, Demps rushed for 59 yards on 20 carries.

Defensive tackles Ronald Talley and Matt Masifilo have also been released, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The Buccaneers entered the day having to cut eight players before the 4 p.m. deadline to be at a 53-man roster. Four cuts remain for the Bucs.
