Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was arrested today in New York on gun charges.
Bowers, a second round pick in 2011, was arrested at LaGuardia Airport as he was attempting to board a plane to Raleigh, North Carolina. Police discovered a loaded .40 caliber pistol in his carry-on bag that Bowers was in illegal possession of.
He was charged with second-degree criminal possession and due in court tonight, according to NBCNewYork.com
New York was a bad place for Bowers to get busted in. The Big Apple has some of the nation's toughest and strictest gun laws and this is a serious charge.
Bowers missed the first six games for the Bucs last season with a torn Achilles' heel but came back early for his rehab and recorded 3.0 sacks in limited playing time.
He is expected to be a started next season if the Bucs aren't able to retain Michael Bennett, who will be an unrestricted free agent. This arrest may change the Bucs' plans in regard to Bennett and may force them to over spend if Bowers is unable to play due to this incident.
