Last Meeting: The Bucs last played the Raiders in the season finale of the 2008 season. It was simple: win and the Bucs made the playoffs. But the Bucs struggled to stop the Raiders' rushing game and finished the season with a 4-game losing streak by losing 31-24 to Oakland.
Key Matchup on Offense:
RT Jamon Meredith vs. DT Richard Seymour – Tampa Bay's offensive line has been ravaged by injuries this season and they could use their Pro Bowl guards in this matchup against Oakland's tough front four. But the biggest one-one-one matchup will be Seymour, who has 57.5 career sacks, against Meredith, who is starting just his fourth game at right guard. Meredith has played well at his new position since making the change, but he has yet to play against someone as dominant as Seymour. The 33-year old is still an elite run defender and will look to make life difficult for Tampa Bay's ball carriers. Meredith must play well and stop Seymour from making plays in the backfield so the offense can establish a running game.
Key Matchup on Defense:
Tampa Bay's secondary vs. QB Carson Palmer – Make no mistake, Oakland will look to air it out against the Bucs' 31st-ranked secondary. Running back Darren McFadden has struggled this season, and the Raiders have needed to rely on Palmer more so than usual. Good news for them is that Palmer's turnovers are down and he is playing much better this season now that he has a grasp of the offense. The Bucs haven't been able to slow down anybody's passing attack this season, but they need to step against the Raiders if they want to move to 4-4 on the season.
