The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were awarded wide receiver Jordan Shipley off waivers Monday afternoon. A third-round pick in 2010, Shipley was released by the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday.
Last season, Shipley tore his ACL and didn't seem to be 100 percent in the Bengals' first two preseason games this year; catching just one pass. However, he is just two years removed from a 52-catch season as a rookie where he gained 600 yards and three touchdowns primarily working in the slot.
The former Texas Longhorn will definitely get a chance to show what he can do during the final two preseason games for Tampa Bay. They obviously like his talent, or they wouldn't have put in a claim for him.
Shipley will be battling for that slot position primarily with Tiquan Underwood, who had a great training camp, and Preston Parker, who caught 40 balls for 554 yards and three touchdowns last season.
At Texas, Shipley was a standout receiver with quarterback Colt McCoy. He finished his collegiate career with 248 receptions for 3,191 yards and 33 touchdowns.
