Fans had a little scare when they saw Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman sporting a knee brace on his left leg during today's practice.
Don't worry though Bucs fans, your franchise signal caller is not injured. The brace is simply just a requirement under new head coach Greg Schiano.
Schiano is making all three of his quarterbacks wear knee braces on their front knee during practice and regular season. Since Freeman is right-handed, he will wear the brace on his left knee.
"It is something we require,'' Schiano said. "That's the position where I think quartrerbacks are the most vulnerable. That front leg, since all our quarterbacks are righties, their left leg is braced. Because when you're throwing the ball and then you follow through and that leg is standing there, people roll into you. It doesn't guarantee anything, but it gives you a little better chance.''
That attention to details is exactly why the Glazer family and general manager Mark Dominik hired Schiano to coach this football team. It's the little things that count and something as simple as having a knee brace on your quarterbacks could help turn Tampa Bay's fortunes around in 2012.
