The old NFL adage is "Any given Sunday…" It would appear that this coming Sunday is an exception to that if the Las Vegas line setters are to be believed. The seemingly unstoppable Denver Broncos host the definitely hapless Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend with a record-setting point spread. The Broncos opened as four touchdown favorites. Obviously somebody thought Jacksonville could at least stay that close as the line is down to 27.5 as of this writing.
For the Rams 101 staff, that's an easy game to pick as we don't pick against the spread. The Jags chances of winning in Denver Sunday are somewhere around the chances of me listening to an entire Chris Berman broadcast. Is there such a thing as negative probability?
Brent and I both went 8-6 last week (meaning Brent really had a better week since he threw away a pick on the Jaguars). After a stellar start, Betsy had another off week, going 6-8. After five weeks, I'm in first at 45-32, Brent is a close second at 44-33 and Betsy is in third place at 42-35. Here's who we have this week:
|NY Giants at Chicago||Bears||Bears||Bears|
|Carolina at Minnesota||Vikings||Panthers||Panthers|
|Green Bay at Baltimore||Ravens||Packers||Packers|
|Detroit at Cleveland||Lions||Lions||Lions|
|St. Louis at Houston||Texans||Texans||Texans|
|Cincinnati at Buffalo||Bengals||Bengals||Bills|
|Pittsburgh at NY Jets||Steelers||Jets||Jets|
|Oakland at Kansas City||Chiefs||Chiefs||Chiefs|
|Tennessee at Seattle||Seahawks||Seahawks||Seahawks|
|Jacksonville at Denver||Broncos||Broncos||Broncos|
|New Orleans at New England||Patriots||Saints||Saints|
|Arizona at San Francisco||Niners||Niners||Niners|
|Washington at Dallas||Cowboys||Cowboys||Redskins|
|Indianapolis at San Diego||Colts||Colts||Colts|
|Philadelphia at Tampa Bay||Eagles||Eagles||Eagles|
We're unanimous on nine of this week's games, including all of us (sadly, but realistically) liking the Texans to get back on track against the Rams. I'm going solo with the Patriots at home over New Orleans, Pittsburgh on the road over the Jets and the Ravens and the Vikings getting home wins. Brent must have been scared off by falling off the Jaguars limb he climbed out on last week, so he's in the majority on all the games. Betsy likes the Redskins over the Cowboys and the Bills, with former Rams Thad Lewis at QB, to take out the Bengals.
