Rams 101 contributor David Schlager caught a bit of the San Francisco 49ers practice Wednesday at LIndenwood University.

A primetime Thursday night matchup with all eyes on the St. Louis Rams is rare.  Seeing an NFL team practice at Lindenwood University is even rarer.

With the short week the San Francisco 49ers flew to St. Louis Wednesday and practiced at Lindenwood that evening.

As exciting as this news was, you can imagine how the news spread along campus.  The security did a job at keeping the media and students away.

Colin Kaepernick can thank the Rams for the opportunity that started his career…but he hasn't, especially on the ground.  In his first action against the Rams, Kaepernick ran for 66 yards and a touchdown.  In the last meeting, he gained 84 yards while averaging 9.3 yards per rush.  The zone read has been less efficient this season for the 49ers, but in the walkthrough it appeared to still be a part of Jim Harbaugh's game plan.

Something that drew my attention was the placement of wide receivers and the wishbone.  On numerous plays Marlon Moore lined up behind the fullback, in the wishbone, and as the sole tailback.  They didn't go to him, so he may be just a distraction?  Regardless that will be something to look for as the game progresses.

Once again, this was just a walkthrough, rookie quarterback BJ Daniels was playing the pass in the defensive backfield.

Just a couple more observations…

Starting with the participants, Aldon Smith obviously wasn't there.  Patrick Willis spent a majority of his time out of the plays.

Vernon Davis fully participated and appeared to be a key in the red zone sets they ran, especially in play-action.

Both Davis and Willis were listed as questionable in Wednesday's injury report.  Also listed were offensive tackle Anthony Davis and wide receiver Kyle Williams, both seemed to fully participate in practice.
