The St. Louis Rams announced the release of 11 players on Monday, including Lindenwood University WR Andrew Helmick. Helmick was a long shot to make the roster, so other than it occurring a week early, no real surprise that he didn't make the squad.
The other roster moves involved the following players:
K/P Brett Baer, WR Demetrius Fields, LS Jorgen Hus, QB Tim Jenkins, DT Al Lapuaho, LB Joseph Lebeau, TE Colby Prince, WR Raymond Radway and CB Robert Steeples. In addition, OL Graham Pocic was waived/injured.
The Rams still need to cut three more players to be at the league-mandated 75 players by Tuesday afternoon. The final 53-man roster will be determined following Thursday night's final preseason game against Baltimore.
Fans should note that players cut during the next week may still find their way back on the Rams roster as members of the practice squad. If they clear waivers, which most do, they can be signed to that group. It's not uncommon for teams to reach agreements for such a contingency when the player is released.
The Rams will be looking at the waiver wire themselves, but don't expect any big names to be coming to St. Louis when other teams make their cuts. Jeff Fisher has a history of going with the players he brings to camp. Unless there's a player out there who has a history with Fisher, or playing in the systems of Brian Schottenheimer and Tim Walton, it's unlikely the Rams would cut a player they invited to camp to make room.
