"They've come up with a fantastic passing game with their quarterback and they've really shown that they've expanded that in the first game." Carroll said.
San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick earned his first start last season in Week 11 leading the 49ers to a 32-7 victory over the Chicago Bears. Carroll said they didn't appear ready to throw the ball a ton like they are now.
"They can throw it as much as they have to now and be really good at it, so it's harder now… I think they're more in tune with his talents."
Last Sunday Kaepernick was 27/39 for 412 yards with three TD's and no interceptions lifting the 49ers over the Green Bay Packers 34-28.
"They're giving him a chance to make things happen and he did." Carroll said.
Eleven year veteran wide receiver Anquan Boldin, acquired through free agency this year on a 4-year 28 million dollar contract earned every penny for the 49ers in Week 1 with 13 receptions, 208 yards, and a touchdown. Carroll said he's big, strong and has the ability to position his body away from defenders to make receptions. The only way to limit his effectiveness is to cover him and rush the passer.
"The problem with Anquan is you can cover him and he can still make the play because he's such a dominant catcher."
Carroll told reporters he doesn't single out this weeks divisional game as more important than any other games on the Seahawks schedule.
"It's a championship opportunity for us as it was last week — it's not different. These games will all weigh-in at the end. We have a real strict mentality about that, they're (the 49ers) the biggest game in the world to us and next week will be the same."
The Seattle Seahawks coaching philosophy has been the same since Carroll's arrival three years ago.
"I'm trying to get these guys to understand how to give everything they have, every single step that they take, so if you're going to be consistent in that thinking then it certainly applies to the games as well."
Regarding the obvious rivalry between the Seahawks and 49ers fan base and the "nastiness" that routinely swirls around their divisional games Carroll seriously looked at reporters and said
"Uh, no I haven't seen that at all between the fan bases," then, waiting a couple beats, cracked a grin. "The number one thing this week is we get to come home and play football here," Carroll said. "Our guys love playing here, they love being part of it and it's a great spectacle."
