Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll reported Thursday night during the post game press conference that he was very pleased about his teams 31-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He said a focal point was for the team to finish. Carroll was also upbeat about zero turnovers and four interceptions and said the team is now on the plus side of the turnover ratio for the season.
Yesterday, at the Friday press conference he said it was a good game for the program and they had a lot of fun playing it and a lot of fun mixing with the crowd. Because of the win he gave the team the extra Friday off and it's not to report back until Tuesday.
“I haven’t given them a break at all. They’re a young team and we’ve used every minute. This is a terrific opportunity to get fresh”
Carroll said the Seahawks offensive line had a great night with good movement and coordination coming off the ball. He also noted that starting tackle Russell Okung had a big block in the pile that sprung running back Marshawn Lynch free during his incredible 16 yard touchdown in the first quarter.
Late in the game, an Eagle defender hooked Okung under the arm and slammed him to the ground. Carroll reported that it looks like he has extensive damage to his pectoral muscle.
“The big loss is Russell being hurt. He got thrown down after the whistle. Really blatantly. Late and out of line, unfortunately”
When the coach was asked whether the Philadelphia game was a blueprint for his team he said they’ve been playing the same style for a month.
“This was cleaner. The fact that we’ve cut our penalties doesn’t mean anything unless we can do it next week"
Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate with four receptions for 47 yards and a touchdown, started the game in place of Sidney Rice, who was placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday. The head coach said he’s a tremendous athlete with Marshawn Lynch style running instincts.
"I love him. I’m away's on his butt about something. It’s because he’s really good and he’s going to be a really good player for us, and I’m just trying to get it to come to the surface. I can’t wait to figure out other way’s to get the ball in his hands."
The Seahawks head coach and management expect the team to finish the season strong, and believe it's heading in the right direction.
“As we look ahead, we really like this team and the guys we are developing. Of course we’ll add in the draft and have a few free agent opportunities. But we really like this team and want to keep them together and watch them grow together”
