The series of injuries to San Jose Sharks' forwards continues. According to the San Jose Mercury News' David Pollack, Logan Couture is scheduled to have surgery on his right hand on Wednesday. Couture is looking at a 3-4 week recovery time, which may jeopordize his participation on Team Canada in the 2014 Sochi Olympics. The 24-year-old has appeared in all 43 Sharks games up until this point, logging 14 goals and 35 points.
As per the usual Sharks song and dance, no specifics were released on how or when the injury occurred, but Sharks' insiders have noted that Couture has been seen wearing a brace on the arm after recent practices. He has also left practice early on numerous occasions over the past couple weeks, signaling that the injury isn't healing properly. In addition to the hand injury, Couture sustained a tough hit by Patrick Kane during the Sharks' 3-2 shootout victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.
Couture is just the latest in a string of San Jose injuries. You all know about the long recoveries of Raffi Torres and Adam Burish. Tommy Wingels has an "upper body injury." Conversely, Martin Havlat has a "lower body injury." And Tyler Kennedy has come down with the flu. Unsurprisingly, the Sharks once again called up Freddie Hamilton to beef up the ailing lineup.
San Jose travels to Nashville Tuesday to try to avenge a December 14 3-2 loss against the Predators. Here's to hoping they end the game with as many players that started.
