Sharks Drop Second in a Row to the Hurricanes

The San Jose Sharks started off strong against the Carolina Hurricanes, scoring two goals in the first period. Despite the aggressive start, the team fell into a not-so-welcome familiar pattern of blowing their first period lead. Typically, it’s the second period where the Sharks struggle, but tonight, they crumbled in the third, allowing four goals in the 5-3 loss.
The Sharks lead 2-1 to open the third, but a quick two goals put the ‘Canes on top.  Justin Braun  locked up the score midway through the period.  The Sharks’ luck bombed as the ‘Canes piled on another two goals, with Elias Lindholm’s tip-in goal with six minutes remaining put the ‘Canes ahead for good.
Not only was it the second straight loss for San Jose, but the second straight game where five goals were allowed. Ouch.
Despite the score line, backup goalie Alex Stalock had a good night with 30 saves, but some unlucky bounces resulted in goals against the rookie.
The Sharks hope to return to San Jose with a even 2-2 record on the road trip as they take on the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
