Did the San Jose Sharks Keep Their Winning Streak Alive Against Pittsburgh Penguins?

Heading into Pittsburgh, the San Jose Sharks had won nine of their last ten games. It's not unreasonable to come to the conclusion that one of the main reasons for their success is the return of forward Brent Burns. During the time he was out with an unspecified facial injury, the sharks were 6-3-4. With Burnzie on the ice, the Sharks are 12-0-1.  Their winning streak was put to the test as they faced the Metropolitan Division leading Pittsburg Penguins tonight.
The Sharks are playing well as of late, not solely due to Burns, but also because of the contributions of Joe Thornton, who has three goals and five assists and Logan Couture who has two goals and and three assists during their six game winning streak.
Unfortunately for San Jose, their winning streak wasn’t meant to continue, as they were steam rolled by the Penguins 5-1.
After an uneventful scoreless first period, the Penguins returned for the second period blazing, scoring three quick goals in the first six minutes of the period.
The Sharks were lucky to get a goal in by Tomas Hertl halfway through the period. They had a few great shots on goal, but goalkeeper Marc-Andre Fleury had a series of great saves to prevent San Jose from adding to the tally sheet.
The team will have to tighten up their defense to avoid goals when they travel to Carolina to take on the Hurricanes. Though the offense wasn’t helping much, it was the defense and bad passing that allowed the Penguins to punish the Sharks in the second period. Starting goalie Antti Niemi was put out of his misery prior to the third period to warm Alex Stalock up for a possible start when the Sharks take on the Hurricanes tomorrow at 4pm PST.
