Tonight's game in Detroit will be missing a key San Jose forward. Brent Burns will be off the Sharks roster against the Detroit Red Wings. Burns was hit in the teeth (gums?) during Saturday's game against Calgary, and the injury is bothering him enough to take a night off.
We have to admit, Coach Scott McLellan's quote to CSN Bay Area made us laugh out loud,
“Brent won’t play tonight. He got hit in the teeth – well, he doesn’t have teeth, I guess in the gums – the other night, and they are bothering him right now,” Todd McLellan said. “He’ll be out tonight, and hopefully he’s ready to go when we get to Boston.”
This wasn't the first time Burns was hit in the chops. He was also high-sticked on October 12 against the Ottowa Senators. He traveled with the team for the 5-game road trip, and is expected to play in Boston on Thursday. Rookie Freddie Hamilton is slated to make his NHL debut tonight in his place.
Don't forget, tonight's game is an early one. Check it out at 4:30pm on CSN-CA.
Burnzie's Buzzcut for Charity
In other Burnzie news, he announced on Saturday that he will be shaving his trademark hobo-style beard and long hair for charity.
From now until Halloween, the Sharks Foundation will accept donations in an effort to raise at least $5000 for Defending the Blue Line and the Katie Moore Foundation.
Defending the Blue Line is an organization that provides children of members of the military with free hockey equipment, opportunities to attend camps, and other financial assistance. The Katie Moore Foundation was founded in memory of former Shark Dominic Moore's wife, Katie, who tragically and suddenly lost her life to a rare form of liver cancer last year.
