Sharks GM Doug Wilson announced on Monday that the roster for opening night is set, with rookies Tomas Hertl
, Matt Nieto
and Freddie Hamilton included in the fold. Alex Stalock came up on top for the number two spot in the net, backing up Vezina finalist Antti Niemi.
Additionally, the team assigned five players to the Worcester Sharks and one to the San Francisco Bulls. Veteran Anthony Stewart was also released.

Injuries Opened the Door for the Kids
With the exception of Hertl, who blazed through preseason as if he owned a spot on the team, injuries to the starting roster played a part in the rookies making the cut. Veteran forward Raffi Torres
ended up on the operating table last week to repair a torn ACL and will be on the injured reserve list for at least three months. Both Adam Burish and Brad Stuart are unlikely to start on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks with the dreaded "lower body injury."
Hertl will likely stay on the Joe Thornton/Brent Burns line, after bonding with them in preseason and scoring three goals and racking up an assist. Torres' place on the Joe Pavelski/Tommy Wingels line could possibly be filled by Matt Nieto
, who was initially a long shot to make the team, but his speed on the ice caught the eye of Doug Wilson and Coach Scott McLellan. Hamilton's place is less certain on the roster, but the 21-year old is incredibly versatile, with the ability to play a center or wing. He could fill in for Burish if he's not ready on opening night.
