San Francisco Giants-Chicago Cubs Series Preview

After recording a winning 3-2 homestand, the San Francisco Giants open up a six-game road trip Tuesday night in Chicago against the Cubs.

The 65-58 Giants remain 3.5 games out of first place in the National League West, while the 54-70 Cubs are in last place in the National League Central, 15.5 games out.

Ryan Vogelsong (7-8) takes the ball in the opener opposing Tsuyoshi Wada (2-1). Vogelsong is 5-5 all-time against the Cubs with a 5.75 ERA and 49 strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.

Wednesday night has Jake Peavy (1-3) taking on Edwin Jackson (6-13). Peavy has a 7-5 career record versus the Cubs with a 2.78 ERA and 92 strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.

Thursday's series finale is a matchup between Madison Bumgarner (13-9) and Travis Wood (7-10). Bumgarner owns a 4-2 record facing the Cubs with a 2.36 ERA and 56 strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.

The Giants are 2-1 versus the Cubs this season and 11-15 overall against the NL Central. They are 7-6 on the road versus the NL Central and have a 33-26 overall road record this year.

Michael Morse enters the series batting .500 in his last 10 games, smacking 14 hits, seven RBI's and five runs scored. Bumgarner is 9-3 on the road this year with a 1.72 ERA in 14 starts. The lefty is holding the opposition to a .206 batting average on the road.
