The San Francisco Giants begin a quick five-game road trip tonight in Chicago against the White Sox in the opener of a short two-game series.
The 43-27 Giants remain in first place in the National League West with a six-game lead, while the 33-37 White Sox sit in fourth place in the American League Central.
The Giants enter the series 1-6 in their last seven games, while the White Sox have lost four in a row and 3-7 in their last 10 games.
Tonight's matchup features Matt Cain (1-4) taking on John Daniels (5-5). Cain faced the White Sox once in his career back on May 18, 2008, going seven innings and allowing six hits, six runs and four home runs in a 13-8 White Sox win. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 pm.
Wednesday afternoon will be a battle between Tim Hudson (7-2) and Chris Sale (5-1). Hudson has a career 4-3 record against the White Sox with a 5.15 ERA and 35 strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 am.
The Giants are 2-4 all-time versus the White Sox and 2-1 at U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox swept the Giants at AT&T Park back in May 2008 and will be back in San Francisco on Tuesday August 12th and Wednesday August 13th for another two-game series.
The orange and black are 6-0 against the AL this season and both White Sox starters are left-handers as the Giants are 15-8 on the year against lefties.
The Giants have played well on the road this year, going 20-12 and are putting up some good numbers on the road.
