After sweeping the Minnesota Twins over the weekend, the San Francisco Giants suffered their first loss of the homestand on Monday Memorial Day by losing 8-4 to the Chicago Cubs. The eight runs were the most runs the Giants have allowed this season at home.
The Giants are 12-5 in series openers and 14-5 in day games. Pablo Sandoval has continued his hot play, homering for the fifth time in his last eight games on Monday and has recorded at least one RBI in his last six games.
Buster Posey on the other hand is struggling big time, producing five hits in his last 39 at-bats and batting .143 in his last 10 games. The Giants have yet to get Sandoval and Posey rolling at the same time this year.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Matt Cain is "doing a lot better" and "close" to returning to the mound at some point this week. The Giants have two more games on the homestand before beginning a seven-game road trip on Thursday.
Hunter Pence had something very important to him stolen on Sunday night as he signature scooter was stolen outside Epic Roasthouse on the Embarcadero. The scooter is a GoPed customized by team chef Joe Day, emblazoned with Pence's name, his number eight, a Michael Jordan jumpman sticker and another sticker that says "swag."
Pence is remaining positive and says he'll give a signed bobblehead of himself to anyone who finds the scooter or the person who stole it.
