San Francisco Giants-Minnesota Twins Weekend Series Preview

The San Francisco Giants open up a six-game homestand tonight and welcome the Minnesota Twins for Interleague play.

The 29-18 Giants remain in first place in the National League West, while the 23-21 Twins sit in second place in the American League Central.

The Giants are 5-4 all-time versus the Twins and 3-3 at AT&T Park against them. The Twins last visited San Francisco back in June 2011.

Tim Lincecum (3-3) gets the ball in the opener against Kyle Gibson (4-3). Lincecum is 1-0 versus the Twins in one career start back on June 23, 2011, going seven innings and striking out 12 in a 2-1 Giants win. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 pm.

Saturday night has a matchup featuring Ryan Vogelsong (2-2) taking on Ricky Nolasco (2-4). Vogelsong has a career 1-0 record facing the Twins with that start coming on June 22, 2011, striking out four in eight innings as the Giants won 5-1 that day. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

Sunday's series finale will be a battle between Madison Bumgarner (5-3) and Samuel Deduno (1-2). Bumgarner is 0-1 versus the Twins and had one of the worst outings of his career against Minnesota back on June 21, 2011, going 0.1 innings, surrendering nine hits and eight runs in a 9-2 Twins win. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm.

The Giants are 3-0 against the AL Central, 14-8 at home and 17-10 facing right-handed pitchers this season. They are 11-4 in series openers and 10-4 in series finales. The orange and black have won nine of 15 series this year.
