San Francisco Giants-Pittsburgh Pirates Series Preview

After sweeping the Atlanta Braves over the weekend, the San Francisco Giants continue their road trip with a stop in Pittsburgh tonight against the Pirates in the opener of a three-game series.

The 20-11 Giants sit atop the National League West, while the 12-19 Pirates are in fourth place in the National League Central.

Yusmeiro Petit (2-1) gets the ball in the opener against Jeff Locke (0-0). Petit is taking the place of Matt Cain, who was placed on the 15-Day DL on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 pm.

Tuesday night has a matchup between Tim Hudson (4-1) and Charlie Morton (0-4). Hudson has a career 6-6 record facing the Pirates with a 3.40 ERA and 61 strikeouts. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 pm.

Wednesday's series finale will feature Tim Lincecum (2-1) taking on Gerrit Cole (2-2). Lincecum owns a 2-3 record versus the Pirates with a 4.46 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 42.1 innings. First pitch is scheduled for 9:35 am.

The Giants were 11-23 versus teams from the NL Central last season and will look to continue their recent great play on the road. The team is 10-6 on the road and leads the NL with 28 home runs away from AT&T Park. The Giants rank second in all of baseball with 41 homers overall.

The team has a .227 batting average on the road, while scoring 70 runs and producing the second best slugging percentage in the NL with a .422 mark.
