There's a saying, "you always remember your first" and the San Francisco Giants will always remember their first World Series championship in 2010.
Today, November 1 marks the third year anniversary the Giants captured their first title since moving to San Francisco in 1958 on that epic night in Arlington. The 3-1 title-clinching win in Game 5 over the Texas Rangers finally ended the long drought.
The Giants had come close so many times throughout their storied history with some agonizing losses. The line-out to end Game 7 of the 1962 World Series off the bat of Giants legend and Hall of Famer Willie McCovey in a painful 1-0 loss to the New York Yankees. The team did reach the World Series in 1989 before getting swept by the Oakland A's in a Fall Classic remembered by the earthquake before the start of Game 3.
The 1993 Giants appeared headed to make a championship run, but the rival Los Angeles Dodgers ended their hopes by trashing them on the final day of the season 12-1. The Giants won an incredible 103 games, but fell one game short in the National League West to the Atlanta Braves, who won 104 games in one of the best pennant races in baseball history.
The 2002 Giants made it to the World Series and held a 3-2 lead in the series over the Anaheim Angels heading into Game 6. The Giants led 5-0 with one out in the bottom of the seventh, when the Angels made a stunning comeback to win 6-5 and force a Game 7. The Giants lost Game 7 and were so close to delivering the city's first baseball title.
The 2010 team erased all those painful moments and finally won that elusive first World Series title to the city by the bay. While the 2012 Giants won another crown in tougher fashion, the 2010 club will always be remembered a little bit more special because it was simply the first.
