Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com is reporting San Francisco Giants bench coach Ron Wotus interviewed for the Seattle Mariners manager's position.
The 52-year-old has never managed in the big leagues, but did manage in the minor leagues from 1991 to 1997. Wotus was named Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year in 1997. He became the Giants third base coach in 1998 and has served as the bench coach since 1999.
Should Wotus get the job, he would be replacing Eric Wedge, who informed the Mariners he would not be returning to the team after three seasons. The Mariners have not had a winning record since going 85-77 in 2009 and last made the playoffs in 2001.
