San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum takes the mound tonight for the final time this season against the Los Angeles Dodgers and will this be his last start in a Giants uniform?
Lincecum will be a free agent after the season and has said he will test the market, but Giants fans hope this will not be the final time No. 55 is wearing the orange and black colors.
Since making his debut with the Giants on Sunday Night Baseball back on May 6, 2007 against the Philadelphia Phillies, Lincecum has been one of the most beloved Giants in franchise history. When Barry Bonds left the team after the 2007 season, Lincecum became the face of the franchise immediately during the 2008 season.
The city of San Francisco is known for it's diversity, personalities and unique way of living, making the city by the bay one of the most accepting cities in the world. Giants fans and the city related to the 5'11 170 lb. player nicknamed "The Freak" for his violent and awkward throwing motion.
In some cases, the people of San Francisco loved him even more after he was charged with a misdemeanor for possession of marijuana back in October 2009. San Francisco residents love them some weed and from that point on Lincecum was embraced by everyone in the city. Look at the shirts that read "Let Timmy Smoke" roaming AT&T Park or the streets to understand how much the city loves this guy.
Entering tonight, Lincecum has a career 89-70 record with a 3.47 ERA in 219 starts and 1,504 strikeouts. He is holding the opposition to a .245 batting average, while recording nine complete games, six shutouts and a no-hitter. No one will ever forget his sensational performances during the 2010 postseason where he established himself as a big-game pitcher and was dominate in a relief role during the 2012 playoffs, helping the Giants capture a second World Series championship. Throw in two Cy Young Awards and four All-Star nods, Lincecum has done it all with the orange and black.
Lincecum has earned the right to test the free agent market and see his value, but Giants nation is hoping their favorite son stays where he belongs and that's wearing a Giants uniform for a long time.
