With Chargers training camp right around the corner, I thought it would be interesting to give you a guide to ‘What to watch for’ for those who attend the public training camps.
What may be the most interesting, is the development of speed that the new players have gained with the playbooks. Look to see who may be taking more of a leadership role more than other years. This is starting to be a very young team so it is very interesting to see which of the young guys will step up to be the leader of their respective units.
Watch for Ronnie Brown and what types of offensive packages that they run him in. They typically won’t give too much away in just training camps, but watch for a couple of wildcat packages or if they throw Brown or Mathews in the slot.
I find it also interesting to look for the camaraderie between the new teammates and the veterans. To see how all of them are getting along and becoming a team, and to see who hangs out with who. Some friendships within the team go far beyond just positions. The chemistry from the camaraderie of the offense and defensive groups will be a strong indicator of success in the upcoming season. The chemistry between QB Phillip Rivers and WR Robert Meachem and Eddie Royal will be most crucial on offense, and defensivly the front seven needs to be gelled together to create maximum productivity.
So join the Chargers on July 28th (Saturday) for the first training camp at Charger park at 3:45 p.m (Pacific Time). Be sure to check the rest of the schedule on the Chargers 101 page as well! This should be a very interesting team camp that is well worth calling into work for a few days for. (Your boss should understand)
