One of the positions that has received little attention by the Pittsburgh Steelers as their parade of pre-draft visitors have made their way to the city was running back. Yes, early in the process, the team brought in Baylor running back Lache Seastrunk, but he was the only one until late this week, when Georgia Southern running back Jerick McKinnon came to town.

McKinnon is an interesting prospect and appears like a perfect compliment to what the Steelers have on their roster at the moment. A former option quarterback, he is quick, powerful and understands the game. While he is raw, and inexperienced as a running back, he has shown a team-first attitude throughout his career being willing to take on any role that they needed.

Athletic, he has enough size (5-9, 209-pounds) to take on a third down role and has impressive speed (4.41 40-yard dash) and burst while quickly reading blockers. Comfortable with the ball in his hands, he could develop into a decent weapon. Unfortunately, because of his lack of experience as a traditional running back, there are many questions about his abilities to withstand NFL contact between the tackles. He is also somewhat of a question mark with his abilities as a receiver, coming from a dominant option attack that does little through the air.

The Steelers need a compliment in the backfield and McKinnon could be the Day Three sleeper that could come in and make an impact. Yes, he may need some seasoning to get the most out of his talents, but he offers intriguing athleticism and upside to make him an attractive option.
