Pittsburgh Steelers center Cody Wallace had a rough week after making his first start of 2013 against the Miami Dolphins. First he was publically called out for grabbing Randy Starks groin on Monday. Now, the NFL got their shot in by fining Wallace for that and another on-field infraction.
While Wallace is heading into the weekend lighter in his wallet, the Steelers will again be lighter along the defensive line. Defensive end Brett Keisel, who has been battling a troublesome foot injury, will again be out of action. For the 12-year veteran, this will the fourth game he has missed with the injury he suffered at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. With the Steelers future salary cap issues and Keisels’ increasing age, his long-term viability is starting to be questioned by many outside the organization.
At this point, Keisel may not be the only defensive lineman out of action for their match-up with the Bengals. Nose tackle Steve McLendon is listed as questionable with his ankle injury. With these two starters banged up, the team did receive some positive news with safety Troy Polamalu (shoulder) returned to practice on Friday and is now listed as probable. Joining him as probable this week are offensive tackles Kelvin Beachum (knee) and Marcus Gilbert (ankle), wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders (foot) and Jerricho Cotchery (shoulder), guard David DeCastro (foot), and defensive end Ziggy Hood (ankle).
