The Pittsburgh Steelers returned to practice Wednesday as they start their on-field work for their Sunday match-up against the New England Patriots. During the session, there were some positives on the injury front, although questions still remain about one crucial starter.David DeCastro, arguably their best offensive lineman in 2013 did not practice due to his ankle injury. While the team has not ruled him out for Sunday, the Steelers will not likely rush him back into the line-up until he is healthy.
With DeCastro questionable at best for Sunday, the Steelers did see both Ramon Foster (concussion) and Guy Whimper (knee) take at least limited reps during practice. If DeCastro cannot go, Whimper would get first crack at the right guard position in his absence. Foster, who left the game against the Oakland Raiders with a concussion, would return to left guard if he passes all tests, something that looks like a go after he was able to practice on a limited basis.
Joining Foster as limited participants on Wednesday were quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and tight end Heath Miller, both as a coach’s decision. Not practicing were wide receiver Markus Wheaton (pinkie), nose tackle Steve McLendon (illness) and cornerback Curtis Brown (not injury related). One has to wonder if Brown is on his last leg with the franchise after being deactivated for the past two games even though he is a special team’s standout.
