One day after running back Le’Veon Bell posted his best game as a professional, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a roster move that signaled his strangle hold on the position. On Monday, the team released opening day starter Isaac Redman.
In a move that did not help his cause, he admitted that he misled doctors that were giving him a battery of concussion tests against the Cincinnati Bengals. From that point on, his carries diminished. Redman has spent the past three games on the game day inactive list. Coincidentally, those were the first three games that Bell was able to be active, after recovering from a training camp foot injury. Once Bell returned, he proved to be everything Redman is not, and has given the offense at least the threat of a rushing attack. More importantly, he appears to be improving with every snap.
With Bell entrenched as the starter, running backs Felix Jones and Jonathan Dwyer will split carries as the Steelers primary back-ups. In effect, these roles have been defined over the past three games, where all of the backs have made some type of impact for the offense. After releasing Redman, the Steelers re-signed inside linebacker Kion Wilson, who was released in favor of linebacker Stevenson Sylvester earlier in October. Wilson, a special team’s ace, had remained with the franchise after his release on the practice squad and will now see time on the active roster.
