With one prized rookie already out of the line-up due to injury against the Baltimore Ravens this week, another one may be in question for the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin announced that rookie wide out Markus Wheaton (pinkie) was out, on Wednesday, rookie first-round pick Jarvis Jones was on the sideline with an undisclosed (or announced) head injury.NFL Draft.
While no specific information was available on the extent of the injury, it is worth keeping an eye on. If Jones cannot go against the Ravens, linebacker Jason Worilds will take over at outside linebacker. Like Jones, Worilds is coming off a solid outing against the Jets and could make an impact. Unfortunately, this major problem would be from a depth perspective, especially considering veteran outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley was also limited at practice.
Joining Woodley as limited at practice were defensive end Brett Keisel (ribs), tight end Heath Miller (knee), and tackle Marcus Gilbert. In all, four players that the Steelers definitely need when the meet their rivals in what is sure to be a physical match-up.
The Steelers also made a roster move on Wednesday, filling the practice squad opening that opened when the team promoted cornerback Isaiah Green to the active roster. In his place, the team signed wide receiver Devon Wylie, who has spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals.
A 2012 fourth round selection by the Chiefs out of Fresno State, the diminutive receiver has an intriguing skill set. The 5-9, 187 pound prospect was extremely productive in college (97-1,327-8) and has the added dimension as a potential return man on both punts and kickoffs.
