Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has already announced a shake-up to the starting line-up on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the team continued to make changes, making at least two roster moves and working out another familiar face.Ramon Foster (pectoral) made it through a full practice and should be able to play against the New York Jets. With Foster likely back in the line-up, Kelvin Beachum and Levi Jones can focus on replacing Mike Adams at left tackle against the Jets protecting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
At this point, Beachum would likely have an edge over Brown due to the fact that the team acquired Brown early last week and has gone through only two full practices. Beachum, a former seventh-round selection, has become the Steelers most versatile offensive lineman and has seen action all over the offensive line in 2013.
One player who will not be suiting up on Sunday is inside linebacker Kion Wilson. The surprise roster addition and special teams ace was released on Tuesday to make rook for recently re-signed linebacker Stevenson Sylvester. Wilson, who injured his ankle against the Minnesota Vikings had been the starting inside linebacker opposite Lawrence Timmons, will be replaced in the starting line-up by rookie Vince Williams.
Sylvester, who was released during training camp is healthy again after suffering an ankle injury early in the preseason. The fourth-year linebacker from Utah is expected to make an impact on special teams, taking the spot held by Wilson.
The move may not be the only one the Steelers make to give the special teams a boost. Veteran safety Will Allen, who was not re-signed this offseason, worked out for the team on Wednesday. A two-game starter for the Dallas Cowboys to open the season, Allen was released early in the week. If the team does sign Allen, he will likely take the place of Damon Cromartie-Smith, a special teams stand-out, who was limited in practice Wednesday due to a hip flexor.
