While the talk of the sideline confrontation between wide receiver Antonio Brown and offensive coordinator Todd Haley have stole the headlines, the Pittsburgh Steelers returned to work as the prepare to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday night. Yes, the offense is struggling and Brown has every right to be frustrated, but unless the offensive line picks up their play it will not matter what play Haley calls.Cleveland Browns shocked everyone and traded franchise running back Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2014 first round pick. With the move in place, it appears that the Browns are using 2013 to position themselves for a chance to grab a franchise quarterback.
For the Steelers’ franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, he saw his security blanket, tight end Heath Miller, increase his workload at practice on Wednesday. The 2012 team MVP was a full participant in practice for the first time since undergoing reconstructive knee surgery near the end of the 2012 campaign. All reports coming out of Pittsburgh indicate that Miller did not have any setbacks during the session and is encouraged by how his knee responded.
While Miller was a full participant, running back Le’Veon Bell (foot) and outside linebacker Jarvis Jones (heel) were both limited participants. Bell started doing individual workouts for the first time since the preseason, spraining his foot Week 2 at Washington. Cornerback Cortez Allen (ankle) and defensive lineman Brett Keisel (calf) both sat out practice on Wednesday.
The Steelers also made a small roster move on Wednesday, e-signing cornerback Devin Smith to the practice squad. This move was expected as the team suited up only thee cornerbacks Monday against the Cincinnati Bengals. While they did re-sign Isaiah Green on Tuesday, with Allen uncertain and cornerback Curtis Brown coming back from an illness that made him inactive on Monday, the bodies at the position are limited.
Smith was originally signed to the Steelers practice squad after final cuts. The undrafted rookie from the University of Wisconsin, beat out fifth round selection Terry Hawthorne for the spot after a solid preseason, where he notched five tackles and one interception.
