With the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals behind them, the Pittsburgh Steelers are working toward their match-up against the Chicago Bears. While there was some good news that tight end Heath Miller may be a full participant in practice this week and running back Le’Veon Bell may do some individual drills, even if both return it is doubtful they can instantly resurrect the dismal running game.

The Steelers did make one roster move on Tuesday, and it was one that Steelers 101 alluded to during the Week 2 preview, they released kicker Shayne Graham. The veteran was brought in during the early portion of Week 2 preps when the severity of the hamstring injury suffered by kick Shaun Suisham during the opener was still an unknown. With Suisham healthy, Graham was no longer needed.

This move became evident on Monday night when Graham was made inactive for the Monday Night Football tilt. To take Graham’s roster spot, the Steelers re-signed cornerback Isaiah Green from the practice squad. This move is not a surprise, as the team went into battle against the Bengals with only three cornerbacks active as Cortez Allen (ankle) and Curtis Brown (illness) were made inactive due to injury.

Green, who was originally a surprise addition to the final 53-man roster, will now get his shot as league rules mandates he stay on the roster for at least three weeks and the Steelers may need his coverage skills. Against the Bengals, safeties Shamarko Thomas and Robert Golden were used a lot in nickel and dime situations. While they did hold their own, it is worth noting that the Bengals receiving corps is built more for size than speed utilizing two tight ends and two receivers quite a bit.

At this point, the Steelers have not added another player to the practice squad and depending on the severity of Allen’s ankle injury, that player could be another cornerback. Of course, looking at the beating Ben Roethlisberger has taken, it may be wise to add another quarterback.
